Crazy Brave Blog Post 1: Option 4
I think Joy makes it the problem of domestic abuse very clear in Crazy Brave. It is a problem that does more harm than anyone could ever imagine. I feel that unless you're actually in the situation yourself, you can't fully grasp what it does to people. Joy probably put it into words better than most people could explain it. The hardships of domestic abuse in a family are a lot more clear to me after reading Crazy Brave. Joy grew up with abusive men, she was accustomed to it. This made being with abusive men more acceptable in the future. Joy had an extremely strong ability to forgive people, and in many ways, that may have hurt her. Woman who accept the behavior must feel some sort of stronger connection with the person to overcome the fact that they are abusing the ones they love. The alcohol in their lives was a huge contribution to all of the abuse and wrong doing. With her father and step-father having alcoholic problems, it took a huge tole on her life. Watching her dad come home drunk and beat her mother. That had to have been almost unbearable. These abusive men are lacking common sense in my eyes. The ability to make the right choices. Harming women is a huge indicator of that and is not acceptable in any way. This lack of common sense leads to becoming weak, and becoming violent because of that weakness.

  1. Nice description that you have, but I don't really understand the last sentence of the post. Do you mean the women are weak?
